Updates:
7/6/06 - v3 *NEW*:
Big update if you like the say sounds. I added a lot more say commands for your enjoyment. I also compressed the code a bit and re-organized it so it's easier to edit the sounds.
Here's a list of all the say sounds possible:

The script no longer uses Mani mod to exec on the client. So it's officially all MES'd out. I will be adding in configurable weapon sounds, as well as the say command text changer Cuz recommended, in the next update. I'm currently open for all ideas on how this script could get better. I might just make a script pack (event2sound, deathmessages, and more) sometime in the near future. Of course this script pack will be fully customizable.

7/2/06 - v2:
I added in a anti spam for the event say sounds. You are only allowed to activate sounds 10 times now. This is per map and per player. I also allowed only one sound to be played at once. There is only one weapon death sound at the moment, and that is grenade. If you kill a combine, it will have a combine say "grenade!". If you kill a rebel, a rebel will say "grenade!". It's just the first start of my team specific sounds that I will be adding in later. I hope you enjoy the new version.

History:
I've been looking everywhere for a plugin that would play sounds when a player says certian text. I couldn't find one, so I made my own. The coding a little weak as of now, but it works. I will update as soon as I finish up another one of my plugins. What this plugin does is play sounds on certian events, such as player text or weapons. People were asking me to add sounds to player deaths (in deathmessages), so I made this. The reason I didn't include weapon sounds in death messages is because this is way more configurable. Plus, an admin might want to turn the sounds off (and save the cpu of reading the disabled code), but keep the messages.

Description: Plays a sound when a player says a certian text or gets killed in a certian way.

-HL2 sounds
-Say sounds *Updated*
-Death sounds
-Suicide sounds
-NPC death sounds
-Sound spam protection (for say sounds only) *Updated*
-Team specific sounds

Install Instructions:
1. Install Mattie's EventScripts plugin

2. Download es_event2sound.txt

3. Create a new folder titled event2sound in hl2mp/addons/eventscripts/

4. Upload es_event2sound.txt to: hl2mp/addons/eventscripts/event2sound/

5. Add the following line in autoexec.cfg: es_load event2sound

why dont you use mani??? and this script does nothing on player_death?!

I was aiming to make this script work without mani.
Reasons:
1. You would have to put the sounds in your soundlist for mani to even play them. I can't do that without overwriting yours, and that's just a big problem.
2. I can do everything mani does without mani. Without the use of mani is much easier to configure, as it saves me the time of figuring how to get around admin's immunities.


The is no player_death sounds just yet. That's because I released v1.2 in a rush. I will update it in 10 min.

Here's the upcoming changes for your enjoyment:

good idea to use the internal sounds.

But i see a few of ur script and i see u use mani each time you play a sound:

easy to replace by es_cexec_all

I added this script to my servers last night, jumped on and test all the says sounds. Worked great ! Love the use of the internal sounds. No one was online to kill me so I do not now about the death sounds. Blew myself up with a nade, but no sound. And like Cap'tain ta race said it would be nice to move away from mani usage.

But I see a whole other script here now.
One to replace the use of mani @play .

This script is there now other than replacing the say line.
So I could:
say: 55
But the chat line would read:
Cuz: Played "Woo Hoo!"

You ever work on a script like that love to help input on that.... :D

That would give me this.... 8)

Thanks for the es_cexec_all cvar. I was looking for an es way to exec onto everyone. I wasn't really sure, so I used mani. Thanks a lot for letting me know.

Think you missed adding the es_ on es_event2sound.txt on the instructions listed in the script not on the forums.

your instructions say that the script text needs to be event2sound.txt instead of es_event2sound.txt. ;)

Just pointing it out cause instead of reading the install on the forums I read the script and wasn't able to load the script till I tried to load it manualy and noticed what was wrong from following the instructions within the script it self.

Eh, sorry. New version just released. You don't have to have Mani to run this now.

Working great thanks for the update. I did turn off system sounds
via say:settings , which I know is, mani and the es_sounds still played
is there or can there be an option for a player to turn them on and off as wanted?

I'm going to add a function to turn them on and off per player, but it will take sometime for me to figure out how to filter players. It may be impossible with eventscripts.

I could make the spam protection per sound file, but that might lag the server. I know my server can't handle all the DB action, but I'm not sure if yours can. I'm just saying it might end up being one of those good things, but bad afterwards.

Can't change color of text in DM with eventscripts....sorry.

If it could, that would be great. I know some servers players are not big on sounds. I was thinking of them, for me it's no big deal.

The way it is will work fine.

Does anyone have a link to a sound pack in zip or tar ball format? Im looking for all of the sounds that the event2sound script v3 references. It would be nice to unzip the file in the sound dir and have all of the links to the sound files work properly. Maybe it's posted here and I just missed it.

I'm runnoing hl2dm srcds (deathmatch) on linux 64 on AMD 64 AM2 processor. Deathmessages is working fine. I just can't seem to find the sound pack for event2sound.

Sorry there is no Sound Pack for this script. All the sounds used in it are on the server itself, or in some code within the game program. I have found some of them on the server, look inside the "hl2/sound" dir and all of it's sub-dirs.

I realized that some of them were working but I ended up creating my own and using a map.res file to force the download to the client. Works good!
