   Post subject: [Addon] Connect Sounds v1.5 (updated 04-30-07)

:!: Connect_Sounds v1.5 :!:

:arrow: Quick Description:
Quote:
  • Allows you to announce the connection and disconnection (new in v1.5) of players using 4 different methods:
    • Steam ID
    • IP Address *new in v1.4
    • Name (good for LAN) *new in v1.4
    • General Connection/Disconnection (moreso a welcome/disconnection message) *new in v1.5
It is as simple as editing a text file, and you are good to go!

:arrow: Editing the Config for your Settings:
Quote:
In the es_connect_sounds.txt (the main script file), you will find the below code. Edit as you would like for your custom configuration. The sections in RED are the sections that CAN be edited.

Code:
block config
{
   // Welcome sounds and messages using Steam ID:
   // Add Steam Ids to the "es_connect_steam_db.txt"
   //   0 = Do not use      1 = Use

   es_xsetinfo xe_use_steam [color=red]1[/color]

   // Welcome sounds and messages using the player's name (not recommended):
   // Add Names to the "es_connect_name_db.txt"
   // Good for LAN use
   //   0 = Do not use      1 = Use

   es_xsetinfo xe_use_name [color=red]0[/color]

   // Welcome sounds and messages using IP Address:
   // Add IP Addresses to the "es_connect_ip_db.txt"
   //   0 = Do not use      1 = Use

   es_xsetinfo xe_use_ip [color=red]0[/color]

   // General Connection Sounds & Messages:
   //   Leaving these values at "0" disables general sounds and messages.
   //   If you choose to use a sound or message, when the player connects,
   //   the player will see the message and/or hear the sound. The message
   //   and sound will only be seen and heard by the player connecting.
   //   Use these sounds and messages for general welcoming of every player.
   //   For special messages for certain players, use Steam ID, Name, or
   //   IP Address.

   es_xsetinfo xe_general_connect_sound "[color=red]0[/color]"
   es_xsetinfo xe_general_connect_message "[color=red]0[/color]"
   es_xsetinfo xe_general_disconnect_sound "[color=red]0[/color]"
   es_xsetinfo xe_general_disconnect_message "[color=red]0[/color]"
}

If you choose not to activate steamid, ip, or name in the config section, no one will be announced even if they are in the database.

The "general connect sound" and "general connect message" is like that of a welcome sound and message upon entering the server. The sound and message (if activated) will display and play only once for the player that is connecting. The sound and message will not be displayed again unless the player disconnects and reconnects. This is a "privately displayed" sound and message. It will not be displayed to all players every time a new player connects.

:arrow: Choosing a color for the messages:
Quote:
When you are entering your messages in the database, place the following in front of you messages wherever you like:
  • #default = Gold
  • #lightgreen = Light Green
  • #green = Green

:arrow: How to modify the databases:
Quote:
There are a total of 3 different databases:
  • es_connect_steam_db.txt
    (for adding player's by Steam ID)
  • es_connect_ip_db.txt
    (for adding player's by IP Address)
  • es_connect_name_db.txt
    (for adding player's by Name)
Quote:
Each database consists of 5 different items that you need to edit in order to announce the connection of the player. The below sections are examples of each of the 3 databases (each part in RED are the sections that you CAN edit):

Quote:
:arrow: STEAM ID:
Code:
"connect_steam"

// Now supports multi-colored messaging!
// Use #green, #lightgreen, and #default (gold) for coloring your messages!
// "connect_message"   "#green[Admin] #lightgreenXE_ManUp #default has connected!"
// "disconnect_message"   "#green[Admin] #lightgreenXE_ManUp #default has disconnected!"

// All sounds must be located in the "sound" folder.
// E.G. "sound/yourfolder/yoursound.mp3"
// This script automatically assumes the location of the sound folder to save typing.
// "connect_sound"   "yourfolder/hellosound.mp3"

   {
      "connect_sound"      "[color=red]admin_plugin/manup_connect.mp3[/color]"
      "connect_message"   "[color=red]#green[ADMIN]#lightgreen XE_ManUp#default has connected![/color]"
      "disconnect_sound"   "[color=red]admin_plugin/manup_left.mp3[/color]"
      "disconnect_message"   "[color=red]#green[ADMIN]#lightgreen XE_ManUp#default has left the building![/color]"
   }
}

1. Be sure that you leave the quotations intact.
2. Your message can not contain quotes unless using the ' character.
3. If you only want to message when a player connects to the server, leave the sound value at "0".
4. If you want to play a sound but have no message, leave the message value at "0".
5. If you want the message to be a different color other than the gold, add #green , #lightgreen , or #default in front of the message.

:arrow: Also Included: (special v1.4 script)
Quote:
Since v1.4 changed around the database structure, I included a script to convert your es_connect_sounds_db.txt to the new format to save you copying & pasting! The reason I changed the structure of the databases was so that people could have multiple choices to trigger their sounds and messages. I also added disconnect sounds in this version.

  • First, add the new connect_sounds to your server. Be sure to save your es_connect_sounds_db.txt.
  • Place the es_connect_sounds_db.txt in the connect_sounds folder.
  • The first time you load the script, put this code in your autoexec.cfg and restart your server:
    Code:
    es_load connect_sounds
    es_load connect_sounds/convert
  • After the server is done loading, open the es_connect_steam_db.txt and make sure that all of the admin information moved over. It will copy the Steam ID, turn "message" into "connect_message", and turn "sound" into "connect_sound". If you want to add disconnect messages, you will have to add that.
  • Once you have verified that the database was successfully changed, you can delete the es_connect_sounds_db.txt and remove the code...
    Code:
    es_load connect_sounds/convert
    ...from your autoexec.cfg and restart your server.

:arrow: Requirements:
Quote:
EventScripts v1.3 (or higher)

:arrow: Installation:
Quote:
1. Unzip.
2. Copy the connect_sounds folder to your ../addons/eventscripts directory.
(final location shoul be cstrike/addons/eventscripts/connect_sounds/es_connect_sounds.txt)
3. Place the following code in your autoexec.cfg:
Code:
es_load connect_sounds

4. Edit the databases listed above and add the players' SteamID, IP Address, or name as well as sound and message (databases located in the Connect_Sounds directory).
5. You may have to restart your server or exec your autoexec.cfg if this update is done while the server is up.
6. Play away.

Please feel free to suggest additional features, comments, or suggestions. I love feedback...especially the good kind!!! :wink:

Special thanks goes out to Awuh0 for contributing some of the coding via the forums...

Excellent script man, I love it.

I can now get rid of the old welcome system I was using.

Thanks Again!

Thank you! I wanted to make an easier way for admins to declare their sounds and messages...this is what I came up with. O'm glad to hear you like it! :D

Thank you and thank you. I was under the impression that you didn't have to set this up, but moron me forgot that I already had the sounds. I added the section as suggested. If you see any errors, please let me know.

Yeah you got to make sure those sounds are able to download, if not only you will be the only one hearing the sounds and no one else. Other than that great script man! I've already been taking full advantage of it and it is already up on my server.

I suggest with the text part you use colored text like the green for admin or console. To do this add #green or #lightgreen in front of the message so people will read it when you connect to the server! Or something to that nature...

Big ups to ManUp!!! boH BoH!!! :twisted:

Thanks a lot, man. I'm glad that you like it.

I'm trying to think of new features that I can add...any suggestions?

Maybe I entered something wrong but my sound keeps going in a loop untill the round ends. I am using one of the hidden sounds in hl2 so nobody has to download it. Here is the line in my DB for my steam id

Code:
"connect_sounds"
{
   "STEAM_0:0:xxxxxx"
   {
      "sound"      "ambient/alarms/alarm_citizen_loop1.wav"
      "message"   "FTK Founder Has Joined the Server"

If I play this from the console its only 3 -4 seconds long, but when I enter the server, it goes in a loop and continues to play untill the round restarts.

   Post subject: Colored Messages?

Hello,

The color messages (#green or #lightgreen) before the messages does not work for me.. Here is what it looks like....

"message" "#lightgreen (SERVER OPERATOR) Darkwolf has CONNECTED!"

Can you tell me what is wrong? It appears in game exactly how it appears in the above example. Thanks! Also, can you use colors other than green or lightgreen?

Very cool XEMU! This will be so much better than the hard-coded hacks I have on my server for this.

Thanks for posting it!

DarkWolf: Give me some time and I will check into the message color. I know that it works for some people, so I'm not quite sure what is going on. I will test for myself and see what I come up with.

Razors Edge: What command do you use to play the sound? I used "playgamesound" to play the sounds, which may have a different effect than the command that you are using. There are several commands to play the sounds, and I wasn't sure which one I should use. I have seen many people use playgamesound, and there hasn't been a problem (until now). I will experiment with this when I get a little bit more time.

Thanks, Mattie! I'm glad you like the concept...although I must credit the entire community for the various ideas I threw in here.

   Post subject: Awesome

Sounds good... I must say... This scripts rocks!.... I made recordings for each of the admins that say "Administrator XXXX has entered the game," so if the players miss the message at least they will hear the sound.. Thanks man!

I am using whatever command you used in the ES script. All I had done was add the wav file name to the text file containing the steam id's

Here are the 2 files.

Code:
es_connect_sounds_db.txt

"connect_sounds"
{
   "STEAM_0:0:4620695"
   {
      "sound"      "ambient/alarms/alarm_citizen_loop1.wav"
      "message"   "FTK Founder Has Joined the Server"
   }
   "STEAM_0:0:xxxxxxx"
   {
      "sound"      "0"
      "message"   "0"
   }
   "STEAM_0:0:xxxxxxx"
   {
      "sound"      "0"
      "message"   "0"

Code:
server.cfg file

alias xecs_greetcheck1 "es_xsetinfo xe_greet_check 0;es_keygetvalue xe_greet_check connect_sounds event_var(es_steamid) greeted;xecs_greetcheck2"

Razors Edge: Try replacing the "playgamesound" command with "play". In other words, erase the "gamesound" portion of it and see if that corrects the looping.

DarkWolf: Let's see if I got this part right...in the server.cfg file (the one located in the Connect_Sounds folder), you will find the following snippet of code:
Code:
alias xecs_msg2 "if (server_var(xe_connect_message) notequalto 0) then es_xdelayed 10 es_xmsg server_var(xe_connect_message);xecs_greeted"

I want you to add the BOLD item in front of it:

Quote:
alias xecs_msg2 "if (server_var(xe_connect_message) notequalto 0) then es_xdelayed 10 esnq es_xmsg server_var(xe_connect_message);xecs_greeted"

I believe this should solve the "color" issue.

Well I tried that and still had the same result, I will try different sounds instead of the ones built into the server, I will upload one and see if the same thing happens, maybe it does this with built in sounds.

i found that this only works with mp3 files in cs:s...

I works great! thanks!

Also, Put these files on the soundlist in mani, that way they auto download if you havent already...that and you can also play them manually
