New changes
  • CS:S Orange Box support. Tweaks and fixes to ES, sqlite3, playerlib, usermsg, popuplib, repeat, VDFs, etc.
  • Reduced size packages. Separate downloads for Windows and Linux to reduce download size.
  • Startup check for critical ES updates. Added support for the server to automatically check for critical EventScripts versions. You can disable this by adding eventscripts_checkforupdates 0 to your autoexec.cfg.
  • Shared source with TF2 and L4D. Created a new build system to share source between games and platforms. This should allow more frequent updates and releases.

Important Compatibility Note
    There will be issues that don't work quite right! The change to Orange Box is a tremendous, impactful change for EventScripts. Not everything works exactly the same, but we'll work to get backwards compatibility working.

    Please report any issues on this thread. Problems reported with small bits of example repro code will get priority for fixes.

I notice that the title to this thread says 2.1.0.332, but it seems that the version is 2.1.0.323.

Also, I can't seem to get this to run on L4D (Windows 7). ES doesn't load at all. If I change the vdf to:

}
the server crashes during startup.

Also, will this also support L4D2?

Hello, thanks for this!

Something I remarked compared to fred's unofficial release are the following:
_engines\python\Lib is not a zip file anymore.
es.py seems to have "lost" 2 classes that had been added. (EntityProp and CommandProxy)

Thanks for the catch on the build number, I updated the thread.

This build is for OB only (which is TF2, CS:S, others). L4D is still special. I don't have an updated L4D release officially (untested so far), but can provide privates if people want to try them.

I wouldn't mind trying. Also, will there be L4D2 support along with that? Oh, I guess I should also ask if the Episode1-engine games will be supported the same way in the future? I'm fairly sure that HL2:MP will be updated to the OB, but I'm just thinking of the 3rd-party mods.

You might try removing your addons directory, adding ES clean, and seeing what happens. If you have logs of the crash, that would be helpful, too.

Hey Mattie, can you look into es.createentity and es.entitysetvalue, because I seem to be having a dilemma on spawning a prop_physics. Always seems to say the prop is missing modelname.

Today the priority is CS:S-- I'll be working with YNH on L4D and L4D2 builds. Right now I don't have those ready.

Currently I have cross-compile support for Episode 1 mods but am considering dropping those now that CS:S has moved to OB. (At least no major releases for them are planned right now.)

Send me a PM for the L4D private test and I'll send it when I can,
