   Post subject: New Achievements, New GamePlay, New Crashes

This is a rant, btw...

Ok, so we have new medic achievements, as well as GoldRush...

GREAT!

So, far, Goldrush does nothing but crash, and they are working on it, as they have posted 3 updates...

And now, every ... person (pardon me) that owns TF2 is on playing medic, and it is ruining the game. If you are going to add achievements, why not add them for more than one class? OUTRIGHT stupid, in my opinion. You are forcing the stats freaks to do what they do.

I just got off of a server where every player except for 3 (including myself) was a medic. It was stupid. Every server I went to...my God. Not to mention, people are in there just "padding" these stats and collaborating to get them. Every server I went to was the same. Apparently, thought is not required when adding additional options. "Cool features" is priority 1, with disruption of gameplay at a distant thousandth.

I am sorry, but if this is the direction that the updates are going, I will no longer be playing. This is by far one of the most thoughtless updates I have seen in a game. Granted, great concepts...but VERY VERY poor implementation. The worst part is...I KNEW this would happen. Pardon my lack of happiness and celebration, as the stats "people" (to be nice) ruin the game as they get their precious shiny new achievements.

For those of you that I am inadvetantly insulting, my apologies. It is not your fault that Valve was stupid enough to allow this to happen. I am ranting at Valve...not you. I am on a TF2 strike. :evil:

I played Goldrush for 45 minutes this morning. I really like this map. It doesn't seem quite as tight as the other maps, which is my number one complaint about TF2.

If I understand this correctly, Medics get special abilities when they get some/all their achievements. TF meets WoW? Maybe in a week I'll be able to buy someones SteamID that already has a souped up Medic. :?

LOL they left in the dev commands to unlock the weapons: so you dont have to get all the medic achievments to unlock the weapons.

XE is right. They rushed out this medic stuff cos an update was needed and just haven't considered that it biases the game to medics.

I used to love TF2 but this morning ive got fed up of it for the first time :(

EDIT: annoyingly medic is my preffered class anyway - so now I just look like another pandering idiot when I play the character I like. :(

Ya, I learned the commands to add the achievements after I was done playing this morning. I hope I get a chance to check them out before Valve updates again, assuming they are going to remove the dev commands.

Yep! It figures.

I hope (although I know that they won't do it) that Valve resets the medic stats when they fix the dev commands for the achievements. It would only be the "right" thing to do. Unfortunately, we all know that this would cause even more of an uproar for them.

The dev commands are really silly and careless to leave in. We all make mistakes, but that would happen to be a REALLY BIG one. As Errant said, it just goes to show you how rushed this whole thing was. It is a shame.

Perhaps I am overly-opinionated and being far too harsh about this situation. But, I do feel that I have the right to be a little bit upset. It has destroyed the core foundation of the reason we have classes in the first place. I mean...just wait and release all of the achievements TOGETHER!

Yes, to people who used the command but if you used the command you get to keep the ones you earned after and before you used the command.

Wait...confused.

So... :?:

  • If you earned achievements prior to using the command, you kept those achievements
  • If you earned achievements AFTER using the command (legitimately), you keep those achievements.
  • If you used the command, then you lose all illegitimate (cheated) achievements.

Is that right?

XE: yes that's how it works.. though it appears to not be infallible: some ppl still have the achievements (and some people claim to not be receiving new achievements now).

Undead: it's not so much bothering as annoying. I tried to play again tonight on TF2 but gave up again. The servers are full of medics who aren't playing "properly". It got boring very quickly :(

In total fairness to Valve this last week (or even the last 3 days) saw some major DOS and Nuke attacks on TF2 servers (via certain exploits and so on), they have patched these up in under 48hrs... which is pretty good going. I guess you can forgive them a crash or many for the initial roll-out, it's not like they had ages to test it all :)

Jason played on my server today. :D Got to talk to him for a sec. Ya XE thats all true. Valve always has a back up it seems like. Once I get SM back on im limiting medics to 3 per team :)

Lol Saul... I've not even played TF2 since the achievements cam out, but I played it today and I think you're right xe... It isn't the same anymore, I used to love being a spy and running away from people, using tactics... Now all you need to do is be a heavy and have 600 medics heal you

lol I can't confirm this. There are usually 10-20% medic in the team which are doing their job (and are not framing archievements). You very rarly see a 3 medic on 1 heavy combo.. at least on european servers, lol.

I don't know, maybe it was just the servers I picked, but every server I went on had the same effect.
