   Post subject: [Addon] MagicItems v0.3 (Bukkit)

MagicItems v0.3 (ES-Bukkit)

What is it?

    This multiplayer mod adds multiple magic items to your server. It is intended to (a) make gold and redstone more important and (b) replace things like /home and /warp without requiring users to type in commands.

    My vision is to make magic items that are useful, not too overpowered, and require no typing. The more natural they feel in-game, the better. I want them to feel like Notch coded them that way but no one ever quite figured it out yet. :) Please let me know your thoughts!

    Here are all the effects that are supported for each Magic Item:

    Image Magic Watch

      Daybreak
        Smash a gold watch against smooth stone, it explodes, you lose your watch, yet dawn begins for the whole server.

        Requires: Gold watch in hand, use it to break a smooth stone block
        Costs: Gold watch (and minor explosion damage)
        Effects: Brings the server's time to dawn

    Image Magic Helmet

      Merminer
        While wearing a gold helmet, you will be immune to drowning damage while it eats away at redstone dust you're holding.

        Requires: Equipping a gold helmet as armor
        Costs: 2 redstone for every 30 seconds
        Effects: Prevents all drowning damage

      Seabring
        Right-click with your gold helmet in your hand to dump water there.

        Requires: Holding a gold helmet
        Costs: 3 redstone
        Effects: Creates water.


    Image Magic Shovel

      Undermine
        Using a gold shovel, you will be able to mine large columns of dirt, gravel and sand. Digging a dirt, sand or gravel block will break all blocks of the same type directly above that block. Two redstone dust pieces allow you to undermine for 10 seconds.

        Requires: Hold a golden shovel and dig a gravel or sand block
        Costs: 2 redstone for every 10 seconds
        Effects: Mines all of the same blocks directly above the target block, regardless of height

    Image Magic Pick (NOT PORTED TO BUKKIT YET)

      All Ore Nothing (NOT PORTED TO BUKKIT YET)
        Hit a gold pick against any block, you spend 3 redstone dust, and it scans a 7x7x7 cube around you for any iron ore, redstone ore, gold ore, or diamond ore. If found, it temporarily transforms the block you hit into that ore so you know it's nearby. If not found, it becomes bedrock briefly.

        Requires: Gold pick in hand, left-click a block
        Costs: 3 redstone dust
        Effects: Scans 7x7x7 cube around that block for any iron ore, redstone ore, gold ore, or diamond ore. If found, it temporarily transforms the block you hit into that ore. If not found, it becomes bedrock briefly.

    Image Magic Rod

      Fishing Trip
        Summon a fishing buddy to you-- fish through the flame of a torch to bring a friend to you. They need to be holding a fresh fish and sitting in their fishing boat, awaiting your call. They arrive with baked fish, ready to eat.

        Requires: Right-click with fishing rod into the flame of a torch + target other player holds a fish and sits in a boat.
        Costs: 20 redstone dust
        Effects: Summons the fish holding player to the fishing rod user.


    Magic Blocks

      HopStop (replaces /setwarp)
        ImageImage
        Surround any block with 8 obsidian and smack the center block with redstone dust. 50 redstone dust is taken and that spot is now a warp point tied to all HopStops that use that same center block. You need to make at least two HopStops with the same center stone for them to work.

        Requires: Rune of 8 obsidian surrounding a center block of any material, 50+ redstone dust in hand
        Costs: 50 redstone dust, rune blocks must stay where they are
        Effects: The newly formed obsidian block is a warp point will allow you to hop to any other HopStop rune you created using the HopOff ability.

        HopStop example:

      HopOff (replaces /warp)

        Image
        Two jumps on a HopStop's center point and you are teleported to the next HopStop made with that same center block.

        Requires: Jump twice on a HopStop center point
        Costs: 1 redstone dust per 100 blocks away the warp point is (first 100 blocks are free)
        Effects: Teleports you to the next HopStop

      Home Base (replaces /sethome)

        ImageImageImage
        Smash a compass against a gold block and it will eat your compass and turn the gold block to obsidian. That is now your "home stone". If you have an existing home stone already, this one is your new one and the other is deactivated (cobblestone).

        Requires: Compass in hand, mine a gold block with it
        Costs: Compass, gold block (turns to obsidian)
        Effects: The newly formed obsidian block is your "home stone" and will allow you to teleport there using Homeward Bound or Homerun.

      Homeward Bound (replaces /home)

        Image
        Whenever you jump 7 times empty-handed you will teleport to your Home Base for free.

        Requires: Empty hand, jump in-place 7 times
        Costs: None
        Effects: Teleports you to your Home Base

      Homerun (replaces /home)

        If you want rapid Homebase teleport, equip a compass and right-click any spot. Rapid recall costs 4 redstone dust, though.

        Requires: Compass in hand, right-click any block
        Costs: 4 redstone dust
        Effects: Teleports you to your Home Base


Installation Instructions

    On your Minecraft server:

    • Install EventScripts for Bukkit
    • Extract examples zip file
    • Copy magicitems inside your minecraft/plugins/eventscripts folder.
    • Add es_load magicitems to the minecraft/bin/autoexec.cfg file.

Source Code

    Just extract the .jar using 7-Zip, Winrar, unzip, etc. It's just a zip file and nothing in the file is compressed. Feel free to tweak as much as you want.

    Note that I plan to have multiple effects per magic item, if possible. Thus assumes I can find the right "feel" for the effect.

    Here are some of the other items I'm currently considering...

    Future Magic Items (discussion)
    • Magic Axe -- still debating best effect
    • Magic Feather -- currently debating to treat 10 feathers and 10 redstone as a "Phoenix Down". It will take you back to where you last died, but you'll be put down to 1-2 hearts of health. Risky but useful.
    • Magic Hoe -- still debating the best effect, probably going to make it double your harvest while harvesting wheat (spend 1 redstone for 15 seconds of double-harvesting)
    • Magic Boots -- planning a "glass trail" effect that follows under your feet.
    • Magic Pants -- planning a "torch trail" effect that follows behind you. (Combine with boots for a special expansion of both effects)
    • Magic Sword -- still debating this one.

    Hello there, Mattie!
    I wish to use your plugin, but there are a few features I'd rather have disabled.
    Since it is not Open Source, I have to ask you to either:
    1. Enable us to disable each feature in the properties file. (I don't need this, but you could also make it possible to change the costs)
    2. Open up the source, so I can do it myself :D
    3. Give out a version without Daybreak, HopStop and HopOff

    I'd prefer 1 or 2, though :D

    I hope you can fulfill my request

    As FMIS mentions, the add-on is not compiled at all. It is just inside a JAR which for this script is actually just a zip file. If you want to edit it, I recommend you extract them so that the files live in bin/plugins/eventscripts/magicitems/*.py and you move the jar itself somewhere else so it won't confuse things.

    Then you can edit the py files to your heart's content and es_reload magicitems. :) I will eventually add them to properties files but I'm away on vacation right now. But it will be easy to disable them...

    Updated MagicItems to v0.3:

    • Added Magic Shovel (see below)
    • Added new configuration file to tweak/enable/disable everything (see below)
    • Homerun no longer requires right-clicking on a block, any right-click with your compass will send you home right away
    • A few other minor cleanup fixes, including some tweaks to cleanup how HopStops behave when you create them.

    It should work fine. I don't know of any reason why the room couldn't be made of obsidian. The only problem is the center spot needs to be another brick sometimes. If it's just obsidian that works okay for a handful of them, but you should make other HopStop "lines" with other block types.

    It should work fine. I don't know of any reason why the room couldn't be made of obsidian. The only problem is the center spot needs to be another brick sometimes. If it's just obsidian that works okay for a handful of them, but you should make other HopStop "lines" with other block types.

    ok well here's what's happening:

    make the obsidian square, use gravel for the middle on on both, first placed redstone and broke stone and then tried breaking both.

    no redstone lines appear and no teleporting happens.

    I didn't follow your sequence properly. It goes like this, ideally:

      1. Place 8 obsidian.
      2. Place any center block (e.g. gravel).
      3. Hold 50+ redstone in your hand and PUNCH (left-click) once the gravel center block.

    Now you can hop 2-3 times on top of it and it will teleport you to any other gravel HopStop.

    Is this akin to what you're doing? You don't have to truly break any blocks for that specific magic block effect.

    I think I'll need some screenshots to understand what you're doing. Any other mods that might conflict? Are you using the latest version of MagicItems? Any errors on the server screen?

    If you hold down the punch button you can accidentally destroy the redstone there... you can usually repair that redstone/warp by right-clicking on it.

    The square above the obsidian has to be empty (i.e. no other thing like a torch can be in the way, etc).

    Is it a public server? I could join and check it out? I would be surprised if worldedit would break it too much... Do you have any problems making home stones? Does your server allow you to place redstone wire normally?
